In 2018, Yessenov University became the official English name of the Kazakhstan institution Caspian State University of Technologies and Engineering named after Sh. Yessenov (Каспийский государственный университет технологий и инжиниринга имени Ш. Есенова in Russian, Ш. Есенов атындағы Каспий технологиялар және инжиниринг университеті in Kazakh).
Formerly part of the Kazakh Polytechnic Institute named after V.I. Lenin, the institution became Aktau Polytechnic Institute in 1993, then Aktau State University named after Sh. Yessenov in 1996. It was renamed Caspian State University of Technologies and Engineering named after Sh. Yessenov in 2008.
