In August 2013, Northern Arizona University pioneered three online-based degree programs focusing on competency-based learning. The Personalized Learning program path is accredited by the Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, a regional accrediting body in the United States.
The three bachelor's degree programs are offered in the following areas: computer information technology, liberal arts and small business administration. Students enroll and complete courses at their own pace. The online programs allow a certain amount of transfer credit from other institutions. The required academic credit total for a completed Personalized Learning degree is the same as NAU's traditional degree programs in the same field.
