Update: Off-Campus Centers of Deemed Universities Asked to Close

As of today, nearly a month after informing the said institutions of the closure decision, UGC is now scheduled to revisit the issue.

Institutions that are deemed to be universities are required to obtain proper permission from the University Grants Commission (UGC) in order to set up off-campus centers. Recently, UGC discovered that several of these centers were set up without prior permission from UGC and asked that they be closed. These include, but are not limited to, off-campus centers of the following institutions: Banasthali Vidyapeeth (Rajasthan), Birla Institute of Technology (Mesra), Birla Institute of Technology and Sciences (Pilani), Homi Bhabha National Institute (Mumbai), Indian School of Mines (Dhanbad). Indian Veterinary Research Institute (Izatnagar, UP), Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education (Gwalior), Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Sciences (Mumbai), Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (Mumbai) and Ponnaiyah Ramajayam Institute of Science and Technology (Thanjavur).
