ECE®Aid – You Can Help Someone in Need

In August 2016 Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) introduced ECE®AidZachary Holochwost

Zachary Holochwost , a Research Evaluator at ECE, was involved in the development of this project and has been tapped to lead the initiative as the new ECE®Aid Administrator. We asked him a few questions to describe this new charitable program:

What is ECE®Aid?

The ECE®Aid initiative is a charitable program providing fee waivers for educational credential evaluations for those in need, such as refugees.

In the beginning, we did not know exactly what form ECE®Aid would take. Recent global events left us wanting to help those who may not have the means to get a credential evaluation. Although as a nonprofit ECE strives to keep its fees low, even a nominal fee can be prohibitive for someone dealing with a life-changing situation.

We conducted a literature review and survey among higher education institutions and resettlement agencies. With the responses we received, a fee waiver seemed like the best way to help people and create the biggest impact. Thus, ECE®Aid was born.

Why did you get involved?

I have been at ECE for over 10 years.

My graduate school background is in public service and nonprofit leadership. I have also volunteered and fundraised in various capacities over the years.

The ECE®Aid initiative offered an exciting new opportunity at ECE to get involved with helping people even beyond what we alreadyECE®Aid helps people like Nidal. do as an organization, and it seemed like a natural fit for me.

How can someone get an ECE®Aid report?

We currently partner with trusted and experienced nonprofit organizations and higher education institutions. Our partners decide who is eligible for a fee waiver under the ECE®Aid initiative. Eligibility is usually based on refugee or asylum status in the US, economic hardship, or other factors.

How can an institution become a partner?

We want to build partnerships with those who are promoting the importance of a diverse global community.

If you are interested in how ECE®Aid could assist your students or clients, please feel free to get in touch with me at zholochwost@ece.org. I will be happy to discuss how ECE®Aid might benefit your students and institution.

Who can donate?

Anyone can donate!

ECE applicants who are paying for our services have the option to “pay it forward” and add money to their application fee if they wish to. This donation is then placed into the ECE®Aid funds for fee waivers.

Non-applicants can visit https://www.ece.org/eceaid and click on the “Donate Now” button to make a donation to the fund.

All donations are tax-deductible.

ECE®Aid has also shown us how wonderful our clients are in their support of the initiative through donations. Thank you to everyone who has supported the ECE®Aid initiative!

We are looking forward to what 2017 brings and expanding upon what we launched in 2016!
