Kazakhstan to introduce two-part national exam for secondary school graduates

As of 2017, Kazakhstani students will sit for a new Unified National Exam (UNE). It will consist of two parts: first for the secondary school graduates, second for the higher education admissions. The new exam will continue to offer an opportunity for those students who fail the exam to enroll in higher education institutions on a conditional basis.

The conditional enrollment requires that the students sit the second-attempt exam which is normally offered after the first semester of enrollment is completed. Students who fail the second attempt lose their conditional enrollment status, but are allowed to attempt the next annual UNE in the summer. If successful, they can enroll in the second semester in the fall.
