Iraqi universities reopen in former ISIS-controlled cities

Many of the Iraqi universities which had been under the control of ISIS were liberated by the Iraqi forces in 2015 or later. Majority of the institutions have suffered extensive damage, requiring reconstruction of many facilities. Some have been partially restored while others continue the rebuilding effort.

  • University of Mosul reopened in 2016 with some buildings still under construction
  • Al-Anbar University reopened in 2016 while preparing to reopen some faculties in 2017
  • University of Tikrit reopened in 2016 with some buildings still under construction
