Kenyan students to receive unique identifier numbers to combat fraud

Kenya is in the process of developing a new system of identifying exam candidates. Students registering this year for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCPE) will receive a unique personal identifier number. The identifier number will be linked to student's personal record via the new data management system, the National Education Management Information System (NEMIS)

Along with the unique identifier number, additional security features have also been added to the exam registration process, including a student photograph.

The unique number system is envisioned to track student's education from nursery level through university.
