New technological universities to be established in Ireland

Plans are underway in Ireland to create up to four new technological universities through the merging of ten of the 14 existing institutes of technology. Two of these new technological universities could be ready as early as September 2018: TU4Dublin from the merger of Dublin Institute of Technology, Institute of Technology Tallaght, and Institute of Technology Blanchardstown, and Munster Technological University from the merger of Cork Institute of Technology and Institute of Technology Tralee. Five other institutes of technology are also working toward becoming two more technological universities. The focus of the technological universities will be vocationally and professionally oriented programs in science and technology.
