Universidade da Integracao Internacional da Lusofonia Afro-Brasileira in Brazil Established

Universidade da Integracao Internacional da Lusofonia Afro-Brasileira [UNILAB] (Lusofonia Afro-Brazilian University of International Integration), a public institution, was established in Redencao, Ceara on 21 July 2010. [Redencao (Redemption) is the city where the first slaves in Brazil were freed.] The first students will enroll for the first semester of 2011. UNILAB plans for 50% of its students to be citizens of Brazil and 50% from other countries. Initially, the international students will come from Portuguese-speaking countries in Africa (Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, and Sao Tome and Principe) and Asia (East Timor and Macau). Later, students will be accepted from all African countries. No tuition will be charged.
