New general education curriculum to be implemented (Vietnam)

The Minister of Education and Training (Bộ Giáo dục và Đào tạo) of Vietnam has established a new general education curriculum for primary and secondary education. The new curriculum is designed to allow more time for outdoor and recreational activities, as well as for developing competency in practical areas. In addition to the required subjects, high school students will also be able to choose optional subjects in social science, natural science, technology and arts.

The primary school curriculum is scheduled to be implemented for the 2020-2021 school year, with the lower secondary curriculum starting in 2021-2022, and the upper secondary curriculum in 2022-2023. The first graduates from the new curriculum in grade 9 or grade 12 are expected in 2025.

This will replace the general education curriculum put in place in 2006.
