UGC allows India's Institutions of Eminence to set up campuses abroad

India’s top higher education institutions with the Institutions of Eminence (IoEs) status, such as several Indian Institutes of Technology and the University of Delhi, will now be able to set up branch campuses in foreign countries. This was made possible as the University Grants Commission (UGC), India’s higher education regulator, recently amended its regulations on IoEs.

The new UGC guidelines are in line with India's new National Education Policy 2020 which states that "High performing Indian universities will be encouraged to set up campuses in other countries, and similarly, selected universities e.g., those from among the top 100 universities in the world will be facilitated to operate in India."
