University of Science and Technology (UST) was established in 1994 as the first private university in Yemen, based on the pre-existing National College of Science and Technology established in 1992. A member of the Association of Arab Universities, today the university consists of several faculties (also referred to as colleges) and branch locations:
* Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences (originally established in 1995 to provide education in medicine, pharmacy, and dentistry)
* Faculty of Dentistry (became an independent faculty in 2011/2012)
* Faculty of Pharmacy (became an independent faculty in 2011/2012)
* Faculty of Science and Engineering
* Faculty of Computing and Information Technology (formerly a department within the Faculty of Science and Engineering; became an independent faculty in 2011/2012)
* Faculty of Administrative Sciences
* Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences
* Faculty of Open Learning (became an independent faculty in 2011/2012, formerly known as the division of distance learning)
* Branches in Taiz, Hodeidah, Aden, Eb (Ibb), and Hadramout
