New, 2013, Secondary School Curriculum Introduced in Indonesia

Indonesian Ministry of Education has developed a new curriculum in 2013 and is currently in its early stages of implementation.

The new curriculum includes a few new features that are intended to provide greater flexibily in student choices.

  • Computer/IT classes will not be required. Instead, students can learn the skills outside of classroom.

  • Weekly hours for the cience subjects (mathematics, physics, biology and chemistry) and religion have been increased by 1 hour.

  • Students will no longer be streamed in single majors. They will have an option to select a major and up to two cross-major subjects as soon as they enter senior high school.

The table below lists the general distribution of hours and subjects in the new curriculum.
