With the signing of Law No. 160 of 2022, Egypt President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has established the Egyptian TVET Quality Assurance and Accreditation National Authority (ETQAAN) as the accrediting authority for vocational education and training in Egypt. According to a recent Al-Fanar Media article, the institution will function as an independent entity once its regulations are set in place by the Council of Ministers. Bridging the gap between education and the labor market is cited as a major reason for the decision.
The establishment of the ETQAAN was set into motion by the Council of Ministers as part of the country's implementation of its "Technical Education 2.0" initiative, which focuses on reforming the technical education system in Egypt.
