The University of Burundi was closed amid a political crisis and anti-government protests. Students were ordered to leave the campus on 27 April 2015. Many of them took refuge nearby the U.S. embassy where they set up tents and relied on the kindness of strangers to survive. The temporary displacement camp was taken down on June 25th by the police. While the university says it has reopened, the main campus still appears to be empty as many students vowed not to return.
